  On May 17, 2016, the Montgomery Independent School District's Board of Trustees named the new high school, Lake Creek High School. The MISD press release provided the following information:

  "Montgomery’s second high school is set to open at the beginning of the 2018-2019 school year and will be named Lake Creek High School. The earliest Anglo-American settlement in Montgomery County was called the Lake Creek Settlement. The Lake Creek Settlement was part of Austin’s Colony in the Mexican State of Coahuila y Tejas. After the Texas Revolution, the City of Montgomery was founded in the middle of Lake Creek Settlement in 1837. The Montgomery ISD boundary lines and that of the original Lake Creek Settlement are almost identical."
